The boat is rocking so hard that I just almost spilled my coffee on my computer. One would think we’re out at sea, but we are safely tied onto the dock in a tidal harbor. Just going outside I keep loosing my balance from the strong gusts of wind that hit me. “Surely a good thing we didn’t go out today” is a sentence that the crew has repeated more than a dozen times today. I can do nothing but agree. Yesterday was all fun and games with angry waves, but today it would have been plain stupid to play with the danger of strong winds and upset seas. The tidal water has gone out, and our boat wouldn’t be able to make it out even if it wanted to - there is a tidal water barrier that creates the pool of water we are sitting in. When we came in yesterday the water level was 10 something meters (30 ft), now it is down to 1.5 meters. The contrasts are impressive. We set out intending to make it all the way to Bremerhaven in Germany, but with the weather acting up, I will unfortunately not be able to go all the way. I need to be back in Sweden by Monday to continue with my thesis, and being stuck here for days serves no purpose, no matter how nice it may be to stroll around in a tax-free zone. So if life gives you lemons, fly to Southampton. Tonight’s activities will include a final dinner with the crew of Kantara and packing up my sailing foulies for the time being. My mini-adventure transporting a boat sums up to a total of 334 nautical miles and 2 days and 3 hours of being underway. I wish I could go further, but it just makes no sense sticking around if we can’t move the boat. Thank you Bo and Birgitta on Kantara for an amazing couple of days.
